DESCRIPTION
Lisbon is made of different quarters and peculiar neighbourhoods - this is one of them. Full of character of its people and stories, you will find yourself immersed within the truly Portuguese spirit ( as well as in the traditional gastronomy as there is no shortage of traditional Portuguese restaurants on your door step). The fact that the most famous fado singer was born and brought up in a house a few doorsteps up is just one of the many stories around. Not only it has history but also a great location: next to Baixa Pombalina, a very short distance from the main square Rossio and from the tube, buses, trains (to Sintra or Cascais). And taxi stands. And if you are travelling by car you can also find public parking a few minutes' walk. And Torel Beach (you don´t believe it??!) is 5 mns away.
It is in this area you will find, on a 3rd floor, no elevator, our bright, cheerful and comfortable apartment 269, with river views.
Its original architecture has been changed and you won´t find the apartment it once was. Aside from the original ceilings and parquet, which are there still. What you will find is that the new property owners have had in mind to make it the most comfortable and cosy for your stay. Come and check if they have not done a fantastic job!
100m2, recently revamped and decorated, include:
- A spacious living room, where you find an extra single bed and a double sofa -bed, easy to open and of excellent quality. There is a flat screen tv with cable but you may rather look out at the river view over the roofs. There is also an electric fireplace that provides a warm and cozy environment;
- A bedroom suite, with a double bed and a walk-in closet (160 cm * 200 cm);
- A smaller bedroom with a double bed (140 cm * 200 cm);
- A bathroom with shower (the washing machine and dryer live here)
- Another Wc
- A Shower room
- A fully equipped kitchen with dish washer, microwave, fridge/freezer from where you can step into a sunny balcony with river view, perfect for a lazy morning. Or afternoon? Or both. And all with original Portuguese tiles.
The apartment has got cable tv and wifi.

LOCATION
Apartment 269 is in the district of Pena. There are several other apartments in this area.
The main feature of Pena is that it is a plateau, from which two main slopes descend, facing Martin Moniz and Avenida da Liberdade. It begins at the north-east of Rossio and extends to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, commonly known by Campo de Santana. The streets on the two slopes are twisting and irregular, leading to many beautiful alleys and side streets.
Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. Wrought iron balconies from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries can be seen everywhere. In constant dialogue with the wrought iron are the glazed tiles of the façades - a style reportedly brought from Brazil after the 16th century.
Pena is a quiet neighbourhood where one can find the Italian and German embassies, the birthplace of Amália Rodrigues and the place where Luis de Camões is supposed to have lived his last days (Calçada de Santana, nº 139)
It is very close to the famous Bairro Alto, a nightlife area, which can be reached after walking down Rossio or by taking the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon. This 120 year old elevator goes every 15 minutes down to Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides (see KLM Lisbon city guide).

Notre séjour à Lisbonne fut une voyage rapide de Noel que pour la première fois nous a laissé le temps de nous reposer et de nous retrouver dans notre intimité. Le fait de l'emplacement de cet appartement que nous permet d'arriver rapidement (3 min a pied, vraiment) a une partie du centre historique de Lisbonne. Pas de stationnement facile donc pas conseillé de louer une voiture dans ce cas, ce qu'est une énorme avantage vu que on peut mieux profiter de la ville sans voiture, et les taxis sont tous très amiables et pas chères. L'appartement est beau, impeccablement restauré, et tout de suite donne la sensation d'être chez nous. Super équipé aussi (cuisine complète, chauffage partout, meme sèche et lave linge... génial!), on était un couple et un bebe de 16 mois et on a passé des merveilleux moments dedans. À répéter dès que possible. Muito obrigada.

The apartment was wonderful! It was totally clean, spacious, nicely and cozy furnished and the kitchen well equipped. The beds were very comfortable for me and my children. We loved the central location which made it easy for shopping, sight seeing or getting around by public transport. Not to forget the warm welcome of the Staff, who were very responsive and helpful. Thank you again for the welcome present :) My children an me are very happy to have found this charming appartment in Lisbon. We will for sure come back! Highly recommended! Dieses sehr schöne, weitläufige und bemerkenswert saubere Appartment hat mich auch durch seine hervorragende Ausstattung im Wohn- und Küchenbereich überzeugt. Meine Kinder und ich haben von Anfang an prima geschlafen und die Betten waren sehr komfortabel. Die zentrale Lage in Lissabon ist der perfekte Ausgangspunkt um zu Shoppen, für Sightseeing Ausflüge, Restaurant/Café Besuche etc.. Sollte es mal etwas weiter weg gehen (z.B Strand oder Aquarium...) so sind öffentliche Verkehrsmittel oder auch eine Taxistation sehr nahe bei dem Appartment gelegen. Das Personal war überduchschnittlich hilfreich und hat sich viel Zeit genommen. Es gab sogar ein Begrüßungsgschenk. Wir werden auch beim nächsten Lissabonurlaub wieder dort wohnen. Ich kann diese Ferienwohnung uneingeschränkt empfehlen. |
