Marvellous private view point. Have Lisbon and the river at your feet!

This apartment is on the third floor (no elevator and the stairs are steep) of an ancient building on a pedestrian cobblestone street located in the middle of Alfama's medieval neighborhood.
Nearby you have various forms of traditional commerce, and it is walking distance from the majority of the most popular sightseeing destinations in Lisbon.
It is also at a walking distance to the train station Santa Apolónia, connecting the capital to the northern part of Portugal and also to the trains coming from Spain.
There is a parking place at 3 minutes walking form the apartment at Largo das Portas do Sol.

The apartment combines the medieval  architecture with the designed and sophisticated way it has been rebuilt. The decoration is a mixture of traditional Portuguese style with oriental ambiance. These aspects, the astonishing view over Alfama roofs and the special luminosity of Lisbon ant it’s river Tejo “invading” the apartment through the windows create an unforgettable atmosphere. Don’t miss it!

It is a 140m2 duplex and has been renovated to include the following:

First floor:

  • one big living room with two areas separated by the stairs and a curtain. In one side there are one double sofa bed, one single bed (185cm x 90 cm), one double and one single sofa, satellite TV, DVD and CD player;
  • a kitchen with washing and dryer machine, dish washer,  microwave, electric stove and oven, fridge with freezer;
  • a bathroom with whirlpool bathtub;
  • a toilet.

Second floor:

  • one bedroom with a hand-carved king size bed (160 cm wide), a replica of the Portuguese "Bilros" style; it has a big roof window with an amazing view;
  • one romantic bedroom with 2 wrought iron beds each 130 cm wide;
  • one toilet with hidromassage bathtub;

In wintertime it is heated with electric and gas heaters.

Wireless internet connection available for those who have their own laptop with Wi-Fi compatible equipment.

We will welcome you with a bottle of wine.

Apartments 120 is located in Alfama, the medieval Moorish neighbourhood of Lisbon, where an emerging cosmopolitanism mixes with the “natives” day-to-day life. It is a village in the heart of the city, due to the fact that most of Alfama’s residents have lived here their entire lives and retain a strong sense of community.

Alfama was first settled by the Romans and Visigoths and was an important Jewish neighbourhood in the 15th century, but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (al hamma means springs, a reference to the hot springs used as baths until the 17th century). It is crowned by São Jorge castle, which was built by the Visigoths in the 5th century and enlarged by the Moors in the 9th century.

Be surprised by Alfama's narrow cobblestone alleyways, stairs and squares, built on a rock-hill that was responsible for its survival after the big 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the medieval city. A walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time

It is an ideal place to explore hidden places, stunning views over the city and the river Tejo, restaurants, fado houses, or even to dance and eat sardines during the popular June festivals. Here you can find numerous little grocery shops, taverns and small restaurants - most having no more than 3 tables. At the edge of the Alfama, Lisbon's renowned flea market, the Feira da Ladra, is held in the Campo de Santa Clara every Tuesday and Saturday.

Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolónia train station which houses stylish design shops, restaurants and bars.

From here you can explore the rest of the city walking to the castle (S. Jorge) Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado or Santa Clara or even taking the tram number 28.

There are several other apartments at Alfama.

The apartment Alfama 120 is located in the most picturesque part of Lisbon. The view to the Tejo river offered by the living room enchanted us every day of our staying in Lisbon.

The rooms are decorated in excellent taste and with good quality furniture and accessories. We appreciate the fact that the apartment has 3 bathrooms - that details came very handy for a gang of 5 girls :). The colours of the rooms are very warm and it felt like home.

All the above made us neglect the fact that we had to climb a very steep building staircase to reach the apartment - fitness has been included in the price :)).

We found particularly useful the pieces of advice given to us upon arrival by the travel agent (Ms. Luisa Santa Barbara, who speaks excellent English). We appreciated her promptness in solving some problems that occurred in the apartment during our stay.

We were met by Steve who took us up to our apartment and checked us in. He gave us some wine and left the place to us.

The view is amazing and the apartment is very clean and has all of the amenities! This would be a great house for a family to vacation. The stairs are an issue however if you had a stroller or elderly members. It is close to climbing a ladder for 3 floors! If you don't mind climbing stairs, this place is perfect.

The road to the apartment is old, so it has stairs in it and no cars are able to go on it. As far as sleeping in the apartment, there are two rooms upstairs, one has a queen bed and the other 2 twins. They both share a bathroom and there is a small day bed downstairs next to the couches. The upstairs room with the queen has a very short ceiling you have to navigate to get to the window and also to store your clothes. The kitchen was very nice and we had a good time cooking and hanging out in the living room.

The apartment is situated very close to many tourist attractions. There are also several restaurants around and shopping is about a 10 min walk along the river. The Party scene is a 5 min Taxi and is well worth it on the weekends!

Overall this place treated us to one of the best vacations we have ever had! I loved it and I would for sure come back.

Alfama is atmospheric, the apartment has a great view and is quite spacious. The decor is unique and funky. The facilities for cooking and relaxing after a busy day of touring greatly enhanced our trip.

I would recommend it to others with the caveat that there is lots of climbing up to the street and then up to the apartment.

When we saw apt 120 online, it was our immediate choice for a week-long stay in Lisbon - awesome location in the heart of the alfama, beautiful view over the rooftops and the River Tejus - and the place itself was just like the photos, super comfy, beautiful interior. We weren't disappointed!

When we arrived, someone from Traveling to Lisbon met us at the flat and showed us what's what and offered us a bottle of rose. We settled in and then went out to explore the neighborhood. It was peaceful and quiet with a few cafes and restaurants, our favorite being Canta Da Vila Bistro owned by sweet Vinny from Brazil, and a little cafe down the road owned by a sweet man called Tony and his lovely wife where we had breakfast every day, with the best coffee. Relatively no nightlife, but the Bairo alto is a cheap and short taxi ride away, and shopping at the Baixa-Chiado is walking distance from the flat.

Our only complaint was a leaky shower downstairs and a couple pf space heaters that didn't work. Overall, for the price, Apt. 120 was a great value in an awesome neighborhood and was a big part of our fabulous first visit to Lisbon. Thank you!
