The Bica / Bairro Alto neighborhood is a typical and lively neighborhood: it is full of original restaurants and bars. Do not miss a few meters away, the "Mercado da Ribeira", ancient halls rehabilitated in the same spirit as the British and Spanish covered markets: with a variety of small stalls with Portuguese food and not only, ideal for sharing a good time during your stay in Lisbon.
The city center is in a 5-minute walk, and other points of interest are nearby: about 15 minutes to the neighborhood of Rossio, and 1.5Km to go to the Castle District.
A wi-fi connection is available.
In the winter the apartment is heated with electric radiators.
We will welcome you with a bottle of local wine.
Apartment 291 is located in one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Lisbon, where you will most certainly experience the traditional Portuguese way of life. There are several other apartments at Bairro Alto and Bica.
It is at the border of Bairro Alto inside the way were the funicular Bica passes.
Lisbon's steeply sloping terrain has always been a serious problem for the transport of people and goods between the high and the low-lying areas. During the 19th century, in some areas, the company of transports in Lisbon used trams on rails pulled by animals. On the 28th June 1890 a new system was opened to the public at de street of Duarte Belo, copying the one already in use at Calçada do Lavra and Calçada da Glória. The initial traction system was by rack and cable, with water as the counter-weight and it started using electricity around 1912. The actual carriages where not changed since the thirties.
All the three funiculars in Lisbon, Calçada do Lavra, Glória and Bica were declared to be national monuments in February 2002.
Bairro Alto dates back to the 16th century and is characterised by its small workshops and restaurants. By day, it is a quiet sleepy area (recently pedestrianized); by night the area comes alive and is a popular place to dine and drink away the early hours. In Bica you can find the Bica funicular that connects Bairro Alto with Cais do Sodré (where you can catch the train that can take you to the beautiful beaches around Cascais).
It is close to shops, restaurants, cafés, banks, cash machines, public transport ( inccluding subway station Baixa/Chiado and electric trams) and 24 hour taxi stands, etc.
A wonderful experience of living right in the heart of the city!
Came and see for yourself!
Appartement spacieux, conforme aux photos. Accueillis avec une bouteille de vin et une grande gentillesse. Au centre de tout, vraiment un super appart !
Perfect location! clean and good value.
Amazing location! Good restaurants just on the street and really close to the timeout market. The apartment is bigger than in the pictures and more beautiful in real life. The apartment is fully equipped and totally new. I can only recommend this apartment.
Très bonne emplacement en plein cœur de bairro alto. Appartement spacieux et très fonctionnel. Je le recommande
