Description
|
Marvelous private view point. Have Lisbon and the river at your feet! This apartment is on the third floor (no elevator and the stairs are steep) of an ancient building on a pedestrian cobblestone street located in the middle of Alfama's medieval neighborhood. Nearby you have various forms of traditional commerce, and it is walking distance from the majority of the most popular sightseeing destinations in Lisbon. It is also at a walking distance to the train station Santa Apolónia, connecting the capital to the northern part of Portugal and also to the trains coming from Spain. There is a parking place at 3 minutes walking form the apartment at Largo das Portas do Sol. The apartment combines the medieval architecture with the designed and sophisticated way it has been rebuilt. The decoration is a mixture of traditional Portuguese style with oriental ambiance. These aspects, the astonishing view over Alfama roofs and the special luminosity of Lisbon ant it’s river Tejo “invading” the apartment through the windows create an unforgettable atmosphere. Don’t miss it!
It is a 170m2 duplex and has been renovated to include the following: First floor: one big living room with two areas separated by the stairs and a curtain. In one side there are one double sofa bed, one single bed (185cm x 90 cm), one double and one single sofa, satellite TV, DVD and CD player; a kitchen with washing and dryer machine, dish washer, microwave, electric stove and oven, fridge with freezer; a bathroom with hydro massage bath tub; a toilet.
Second floor: one bedroom with a hand-carved king size bed (160 cm wide), a replica of the Portuguese "Bilros" style; it has a big roof window with an amazing view; one romantic bedroom with 2 wrough iron beds each 130 cm wide; one toilet with hidromassage bathtub;
In wintertime it is heated with electric and gas heaters. UMTS internet connection with USB plug can be provided upon request (10,00€/day). We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”. You will also find in the apartment various CDs of typical Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

Location
|
Apartments 120 is located in Alfama, the medieval Moorish neighbourhood of Lisbon, where an emerging cosmopolitanism mixes with the “natives” day-to-day life. It is a village in the heart of the city, due to the fact that most of Alfama’s residents have lived here their entire lives and retain a strong sense of community. Alfama was first settled by the Romans and Visigoths and was an important Jewish neighbourhood in the 15th century, but it was the Moors who gave the district its atmosphere and name (al hamma means springs, a reference to the hot springs used as baths until the 17th century). It is crowned by São Jorge castle, which was built by the Visigoths in the 5th century and enlarged by the Moors in the 9th century. Be surprised by Alfama's narrow cobblestone alleyways, stairs and squares, built on a rock-hill that was responsible for its survival after the big 1755 earthquake that destroyed most of the medieval city. A walk through this old-fashioned residential neighbourhood is now a step back in time It is an ideal place to explore hidden places, stunning views over the city and the river Tejo, restaurants, fado houses, or even to dance and eat sardines during the popular June festivals. Here you can find numerous little grocery shops, taverns and small restaurants - most having no more than 3 tables. At the edge of the Alfama, Lisbon's renowned flea market, the Feira da Ladra, is held in the Campo de Santa Clara every Tuesday and Saturday. Contrasting with these timeless images is a trendy modern development by the waterfront across from Santa Apolónia train station which houses stylish design shops, restaurants and bars. From here you can explore the rest of the city walking to the castle (S. Jorge) Baixa, Bairro Alto, Chiado or Santa Clara or even taking the tram number 28. There are several other apartments at Alfama.

We so enjoyed our apartment in Lisbon. The neighborhood was amazing and the proximity to the sights was very convenient.

Great apartment with a superior view. Very close to outstanding Fado. Easy access to the “Street Car” that was fun to ride. Would recommend this unit for family’s with teenagers or two couples. Be aware that there are many stairs to both get to the unit but also to get into the unit, therefore if you’re not comfortable with steep narrow and many stairs perhaps review another unit.

We're very satisfied about this service. This 120 apartment was in the middle of the Alfama area which not far from the Lisboa center, the view from the apartment was exceptional and there was a small shop downstair which was very useful for those who do not have a car. It's 20m from the international airport, for information. I can only suggest to go there and trust "travellingtolisbon.com" agency.

Splendid flat, and a very nice place to start exploring the city. Cozy surroundings, not far to small grocery store, and close to the "tram" 28 which transports you throughtout the city. Also nice view from the balcony, and the flat have all you can want: good space good air - even if the weather is hot and sunny. (Almost like home, IKEA-kitchen and dishwasher). Very steep steps from the street, but after a few times it was ok. Thanks for a nice stay here in Lisbon. We came back, and agree that this was the best place to stay! Obrigado! from cold Norway (Frondheim - Noruega bacalao).

Spent a great week in apartment 120. Wonderful area - never seen so many stairs and narrow pathways - loved it! We were here with two teenage girls. Went to Cascais, beach and biketrip - wonderful! Expo was really worth a visit - oceanario especially. The girls also loved shopping in Lisbon :) Cannot quite understand how our 8 days have passed already. Loved Lisbon! So much to do and see. Really enjoyed our stay! Thank you! Will be back!

We spent a glorious week in this beautiful apartment, my husband and I, our two teenage children and their friend. We loved cooking our own food, shopping in the places nearby and feeling like we had a home in Alfama. This neighbourhood is gorgeous - the walkways, arches, steeps and views of rooftops and the river. Likewise, the views from this apartment is spectacular at all times of the day and night. This is not my first time in Lisbon, but it is the first time I feel the history and charm of the city. Thank you!
