Apartment in Lisbon 20 - Baixa (managed by TravelingToLisbon)

Apartment 20 is a self-catering apartment located on the 4th floor (no elevator!) of an ancient building (the same as number 68) located beside Rossio square. From its small windows you have a nice view to the square, to the church of S. Domingos and also to the Castle S Jorge. The building dates back to the 16th C and survived the big hearthquake in 1755.

Apartment 20 is in the heart of the historical centre of Lisbon, next door to all kinds of traditional commerce, fashionable shops and to numerous restaurants of all kinds. It is also a short walking distance from the other picturesque neighbourhoods of Castle (S. Jorge), Alfama, Chiado and Bairro Alto. It is also walking distance to the subway and train stations that can take you to the beaches around Lisbon and to all the sightseeing inside and outside the city.

There are two public parking garages at your disposal within a 2 minutes walk.

The apartment is 40 m2 and include the following:

• one living room with a sofa bed (130cm wide), with dining table, cable TV and CD player;
• one bedroom with a double bed (140cm wide);
• a small kitchen with washing machine, microwave, fridge with frezer and electric stove;
• a bathroom with shower.

UMTS internet connection with USB plug can be provided upon request (10,00€/day).

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”.
You will also find in the apartment various CDs with typical Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

Apartments 20, 65 and 68 are set in the the city centre, next door to Rossio and Praça da Figueira. There are several other apartments at Baixa.

After the great earthquake of 1755, when the centre of Lisbon was destroyed, a new one was constructed, made of grid pattern “geometrical” streets. This area, situated between Praça do Comércio, Rossio and Praça da Figueira is called Baixa.

It is next door to Baixa, now the heart of Lisbon’s historical centre, where apartment number 9 is located, at Largo de S. Domingos.

Largo de S Domingos communicates also with Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides (see KLM Lisbon city guide). From this street leaves, every 15 minutes, the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon (120 year old). It will bring you to the neighbourhood of Pena, where apartments 1 and 2 are located, and to the green spots of Jardim do Torel and Park of Campo de Santana. It is also close to Avenida da Liberdade, place of elegant fashion shops, hairdressers and also to a big health club.

You are within a few minutes walk to the castle (S. Jorge), Bairro Alto (by foot or taking the funicular Elevador da Glória) and Alfama with all their historical sights, museums, monuments, bars and restaurants.

The area is served by 2 subway lines , numerous bus lines and tram lines that will help you explore the city and nearby tourist sights such as Sintra and Cascais or the beaches around Caparica and the Estoril coast

L'appartamento è adorabile situato in una posizione comoda (nonostante i quattro piani); una volta arrivati in cima si dimentica la fatica.
La vista è adorabile - di giorno e di notte su Rossio e Bairro Alto.

El apartamento está bastante bien equipado y es muy céntrico, ya que para ir a muchos de los sitios no hace falta coger metro ni bus/tranvía.
El edificio en si es antiguo.

Lisboa nos gustó mucho, Imprescindible subir al castillo de São Jorge en el tranvía nº28 y visitarlo, las vistas merecen la pena.
Visita obligada es Belém, en la calle principal está la pasteraría de Belém con sus riquísimos pastéis de nata.
El Bairro Alto se encuentra a 10m andando, los fines de semana hay mucho movimiento.

En general todo muy bien, el apartamento es bonito y está bien cuidado.
Muy buena idea lo de los cd's, libros, juegos...

Nita and Hilton spent our honeymoon here. We're surprised at how very central we are. Really lovely little apartment and well decorated also spotlessly clean.
Most essentials already in place, very easy to maintain. We would most certainly come back.
The stairs were a source of exercise!
Food in the area is amazing and also surprisingly short walk up to Bairro Alto to the local Fado restaurants is a must.

All in all a lovely holiday and perfect place to stay.

Have an elevator to avoid the climb would be nice (I'm just kidding!). Really, the apartment was bright, very well equipped (there were kitchen items that I don´t have in my home).
It was located very centrally for us to explore the city and the city and the 5^th floor was perfect to get away from noise at night once the windows were closed!

This apartment is a great lover’s nest. Great location! It is very private with thick walls. While rounding about in Lisboa eat at “Alpendre” on “Rua Augusto Rosa”, good local and good price.
