Apartment in Lisbon 8 - Baixa/Castelo (managed by TravelingToLisbon)

Apartment 8 is a cheap self-catering property located on the ground floor of a renovated building on a small street  near Rua da Costa do Castelo (street of the castle), where apartment 47 is located, and Baixa.

Nearby you have various forms of traditional Portuguese commerce, and from there you can easily reach most of the popular sightseeing spots in Lisbon.

It is also a short walking distance to the subway (Martim Moniz station) and to the train station (Cais do Sodré) going to the beaches around Cascais.

There is also one public car park within a 5 minutes walk of the apartment (Martim Moniz).

This colorful self-catering apartment is at the ground floor of a renewed 18thC building, has 45m2 and has been entirely renovated and remodeled to include:

• a bedroom with double bed (140 cm);
• a living room with double sofa-bed and a double bed in a mezzanine. The living room has cable TV and hifi stereo;  
• a kitchen with all you need including electric stove, fridge with freezer and microwave;
• a bathroom with bathtub,  where there is also a washing machine.

The apartment has air conditioning (hot and cold).

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”.
You will also find some CDs with Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

Apartments 8 is located in the street Calçada de Santo André, which is going from the square Martim Moniz till the street Costa do Castelo. There are several other apartments at Baixa.

This location has easy access to Baixa, the Castle (S. Jorge) district and also to Alfama and to Santa Clara, where Lisbon's flee-market takes place.

It is also close to some of the stops of the famous tram 28 (Electrico 28). This is a scenic route crossing most of the tourist neighbourhoods of the city centre. A definite must for any visitor to Lisbon.

After the great earthquake of 1755, when the center of Lisbon was destroyed, a new center was constructed, made of grid pattern “geometrical” streets. This area, situated between Praça do Comércio, Rossio and Praça da Figueira is called Baixa.

From Baixa you can easily access The nigh life district Bairro Alto and the smart Chiado, with all his theatres, museums, elegant and traditional shops, bars and restaurants.

To the other direction, going up street, you will accede Graça and Santa Clara the place where Feira da Ladra (Thief's market ), the flea market, happens every Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Here there are several  “musts” not to miss on your visit:

• Panteão Nacional – Church of Santa Engrácia: When the construction began in 1682, it was planned as one of the Lisbon’s biggest churches. However, it had been long neglected and the construction was completed only in 1966! It was then that the Panteão Nacional was inaugurated. Here you will find cenotaphs of Portugal's heroes. The interior is colossal and contains the tombs of historic and literary figures - from Vasco da Gama to Amália Rodrigues, the famous fado singer.
• The convent of São Vicente de Fora: Portugal’s first king, Afonso Henriques laid the foundations of this church in order to fulfil a vow to construct Christian Houses of worship where Portuguese and European crusaders would lay to rest. Inaugurated in 1629, the church was severely damaged by the 1755 earthquake. It has been recently renovated and deserves a visit. The view from the rooftop is one of the greatest in Lisbon.
• Some "Miradouros" (vantage points) with amazing views over the castle S Jorge, the river Tejo and the city roofs: miradouro da Graça with an open-air café and Senhora do Monte 600m further on. The views are even more spectacular at sunset. Don’t miss it!

The nearest airport is Lisbon International Airport, which is 5 kilometres away.

El apartamento está muy bien situado, muy limpio, funcional y completo, con mobiliario cien por cien Ikea, eso sí. (…) un sitio perfecto para alojarse unos días en Lisboa, cerca de San Jorge, Santa Luzía, el mirador de Graça, la plaza de Figueras... todo está cerca. Al precio de la temporada baja merece la pena...

This fantastic apartment is where it all begun. When we were shown the apartment by our hostess she explained that this apartment was the first to be rented out. It is therefore a good example of how to feel at home in Lissabon. The house, the neighbourhood, the little trams driving by the kitchen window, it is really fantastic.

For a taste of "France in Portufgl", try a little restaurant called "Les Mauvais Garçons" - Rua da Rosa 39, Bairro Alto.
Don't bother with "O Nascente do Sol" - just near the Miradouro de Luzia - we found it overpriced and the food was mediocre.

Recommendations:
- Oceanarium
- wanderging round Alfama/Castelo
- Terrace bar on 6th floor of Hotel Bairro Alto (Praça de Camões) to watch the sunset

We spent 4 wonderful & sunny days. Belém Torre, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos are two “must be seen” – they are outstanding…

We came back home with plenty pictures into our heads: tram 28, fado singers, stairs going up, and up again.
Very close to this apartment, there is a beautiful view over Lisboa: just climb the “Caracol da Graça”.

We enjoyed our few days in Lisbon. The weather was very good! - hot and sunny - we went to Belém and sat for hours in the sun between the Torre and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos.
We went to Sintra and sat in the sun at the Castelo dos Mouros - after walking all the way up!

Hemos estado aquí cuatro días sin apenas parar por el apartamento más que a cenar y a dormir.

Lisboa tienne muchas cosas para no parar, pero para nosotros uno de los monumentos com más encanto ha sido el castillo.
Si hay tiempo para hacer alguna excursion nosotros hicimos dos:
- subiendo hacia el norte por el tajo: Oeiras, Carcavelos, Estoril, Cascais, Cabo da Roca, Azoia,Ssintra (necesita un día entero, precioso), Mafra, Queluz...
- cruzando el tajo por el puento 25 Abril, hacia el sur: Almada (merece la pena subir al Cristo), Costa da Caparica, Cabo Espichel, Sesimbra, Setúbal...

Sempre hemos encontrado sitio para aparcer ceca del apartamento. Para moverse por Lisboa tranvías 12 y 28, y metro.

L’appartement est très bien situé, à quelques minutes à pied du métro et tramway (en descendant!) et à 10 min à pied de Rossio.
Il est idéal pour 4 personnes, la cuisine est un peu petite. Le voisinage est calme, il y a quelques épiceries ouvertes tard le soir et les taxis passent souvent.
La déco est géniale et les lits très confortables.
Par contre, il faut être ingénieur pour régler la télé! Mais bon quand on est en vacances, on n’a pas besoin de télé…
Je le conseille vivement !

Que más se le puede pedir a un apartamento en Lisboa:

- precioso
- limpio
- céntrico
- con tranvía!!!

Me dijeron que Lisboa era bonita, que era la ciudad de la LUZ, no se equivocaron.
Estuvimos desde España (Cabra-Córdoba) visitando Portugal (ah! por cierto bonito detalle o casualidad) que el apartamento sea de los mismos colores de la bandera).

Recomendaciones:

- Sintra - como un cuento de princesas
- Callejuela de Alfama
- Fiesta Bairro Alto
- Monumento descobridores (Belém)
- Oceanario!

Un joli appartement bien décoré aux couleurs du portugal, tout le confort, même un lit bébé.
Très bien situé par rapport au centre et aux différents quartiers, tout est accessible à pieds, à 100m  du départ du famuex tramway n°28. Tous commerces à proximité.
Un tramway passe dans la rue et un petit café juste en face, un peu bruyant pour ceux qui dorment dans le salon.

Un petit conseil: pensez à garder vos justificatifs de paiement pour les titres de transports. En cas de coupon defaillant, ils vous seront reclamés.

It was a very nice stay in Lisbon and in this cosy apartment.
Especially as it´s always very nice to catch a glimpse in the apartments when visiting a foreign (and so beautiful) city and imagine what it would like to come home there after a day's business.
And now we could feel like real lisboetas for a weekend and watch the tourists in the eléctrico 12 passing our window looking in the and thinking "how nice"..

- rendre une petite visite à la superette de la rue, la commerçante est d'excellents conseils et elle baragouine le français!!!

- pour la charcuterie et l'ordre!! (vous comprendrez) n'hésitez pas à traverser la rue; l'étalage est nickel et le marchand très typique,

L'appartement: très joliement décoré et fonctionnel. Très accueillant avec ses petites attentions: biscuits, fruits, boissons... Bien placé, au centre ville.

Lisbonne: la facilité des transports nous a séduit (surtout avec des enfants). Taxis très accessibles, tramway très typique, métro agréable... télécabines à l'Expo 98 + au dessus du zoo permettent d'avoir une vision différente (en hauteur, c'est sympa!)

Notre semaine fut très complète: musée de la marine, visite du Palais de Sintra, musée du Chiado, château S. Jorge, zoo, oceanário, centre Les Amoreiras...
Heureusement, nous avons une deuxième semaine de vacances chez nous (pour se reposer!!)

Notre séjour ici a été magnifique: d'abord la découverte de Lisbonne. Chaque jour une découverte, une merveille... L'ambiance , contrastée, à la fois tourmentée et joyeuse; paisible et toute en mouvements; désordonnée et pourtant si recherchée!

Appartement agréable, coloré, confortable et très propre. Une rue néanmoins animée par le café d'en face et les ouvriers travaillant dans la maison située en face lors de notre séjour. Une authenticité recherchée et bien agréable pour ce séjour lisboète en plein mois de février.Patience aussi de Pédro et Laurence pour nous attendre lorque l'avion a une heure de retard.Vous confirmez la bonne image que l'on a des portugais qui sont chaleureux et conviviaux.

Astuce pour se rendre à l'aéroport, prendre le métro jusqu'à Oriente et le bus 41 ensuite c'est pratique et plus économique que l'aérobus.

Aujourd'hui, c'est mon anniversaire et je suis ravie de le passer ici, à Lisbonne et dans votre appartement! L'accueil et le lieu sont formidables. Nous avons vraiment apprécié.
Lisbonne est une ville qui nous est apparue très agréable, paisible, pleine de descente et de montées!!! qui, en un mot, nous a séduites et nous a donné envie de visiter le reste du Portugal et de revenir pour retrouver toute cette beauté et ce cadre splendide.
Surtout dans les conditions offertes par ce très agréable appartement dans ce quartier très mignon quartier d'Alfama.
On adore la ginja, les portugais, le fado, le poisson, le vinho verde, le chouriço et les brownies!
