Apartment in Lisbon 62 - Bairro Alto (managed by TravelingToLisbon)

This charming apartment is located on a small villa in the Bairro Alto (BA) district, one of Lisbon’s oldest neighbourhoods, where you will most certainly experience the traditional Portuguese way of life. 

From the room's window, there is a nice view over the city roofs.

The apartment is 40m2 and has been renovated to include the following:

• one bedroom with double bed (140cm);
• a living room (TV, CD player and PC) with a small table;
• a small kitchen with washing machine, microwave, a small electric stove, fridge with freezer;
• a bathroom with shower.

In wintertime it is heated with electric heaters.

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”.

You will also find in the apartment various CDs with typical Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

There are several other apartments located at Bairro Alto (BA). 

BA dates back to the 16th century and is characterised by its small workshops and restaurants. By day, it is a quiet sleepy area (recently pedestrianised); by night the area becomes alive and is a popular place to dine and drink away the early hours.  

There are three public car parks within 3 minutes walking distance.

The apartment is a short walking distance from the other picturesque neighbourhoods of Baixa, Chiado, and Alfama, where you can find the historic Castle (S. Jorge).  It is also walking distance to the subway (the closest is Baixa-Chiado) and train stations (Cais do Sodré) that can take you to the beautiful beaches around Cascais.

A 5 minute walk takes you to Rossio, in Baixa, and to the Elevador da Gloria (Time Table), arriving in  Avenida da Liberdade. In the other direction, by the river Tagus (Rio Tejo), you can find Praça do Comércio, centre of the old Portuguese empire. It is close to shops, restaurants, cafés, banks, cash machines, public transport (inc subway Baixa/Chiado station and electric trams) 24 hour taxi stands, etc.

The nearest airport is Lisbon International Airport at 8 kilometres ; the nearest railway station is International Station of Santa Apolónia at 1 kilometre.

Overall the apartment was great.
The reason I gave a functional score of 2 was that the hot water pressure dropped dramatically after a few seconds making showering uncomfortable.
I must give special mention to António Mascarenhas who received us, he was really friendly and informative and gave us some great tips on Lisbon.
I also wrote a note in the comments book that is in the apartment.

Appartement très agréable, damage qu'il n'y ail pas de porte entre les différents pièces, un peu d'intimité dans le salle de bain n'aurait pas nui...
Il est idéal pour 2 adultes et bébé. Merci par l'accueil et le bouteille fraiche à l'arrivée.
Pour l'emplacement: une rue calme dans une agréable quartier très animé, faire de monde rues petits restos sympas et abordables.

The location in Bairro Alto is very nice and convenient. Yet, the construction going on all throughout the week is quite bothersome and dirty.
If you like dance clubs, give  Lux a try first, its world class. Then if you're up for something a litle more cheesy, give Docks a try.
