Apartment in Lisbon 68 - Baixa (managed by TravelingToLisbon)

Apartment 68 is a self-catering apartment located on the 4th floor (no elevator!) of an ancient building located beside Rossio square. From its small windows you have a nice view to the square, to the church of S. Domingos and also to the Castle S Jorge. The building dates back to the 16th C and survived the big hearthquake in 1755.

Apartment 68 is in the heart of the historical center of Lisbon, next door to all kinds of traditional commerce, fashionable shops and to numerous restaurants of all kinds. It is also a short walking distance from the other picturesque neighbourhoods of Castle (S. Jorge), Alfama, Chiado and Bairro Alto. It is also walking distance to the subway and train stations that can take you to the beaches around Lisbon and to all the sightseeing inside and outside the city.

There are two public parking garages at your disposal within a 2 minutes walk.

The apartment is 55 m2 and includes the following:

• one living room with a double sofa bed (140 cm wide), TV, DVD player and CD player;
• one bedroom with a double bed (140cm wide);
• one bedroom with a single bed and a small individual sofa bed;
• a small kitchen with washing machine, microwave, fridge with frozen compartment and electric oven and stove;
• a bathroom with shower.  

This is the perfect cheap self-catering property, decorated in a young and a relaxed way and it is perfect for people wanting to stay right in the heart of the city centre.
UMTS internet connection with USB plug can be provided upon request (10,00€/day).

In wintertime it is heated with electric heaters.

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”. You will also find in the apartment various CDs with typical Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

This apartment is set in the the city centre, next door to Rossio and Praça da Figueira.

After the great earthquake of 1755, when the centre of Lisbon was destroyed, a new one was constructed, made of grid pattern “geometrical” streets. This area, situated between Praça do Comércio, Rossio and Praça da Figueira is called Baixa.

It is next door to Baixa, now the heart of Lisbon’s historical centre, where apartment number 9 is located, at Largo de S. Domingos. There are several other apartments at Baixa.

Largo de S Domingos communicates also with Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides (see KLM Lisbon city guide). From this street leaves, every 15 minutes, the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon (120 year old). It will bring you to the neighbourhood of Pena, where apartments 1 and 2 are located, and to the green spots of Jardim do Torel and Park of Campo de Santana. It is also close to Avenida da Liberdade, place of elegant fashion shops, hairdressers and also to a big health club.

You are within a few minutes walk to the castle (S. Jorge), Bairro Alto (by foot or taking the funicular Elevador da Glória) and Alfama with all their historical sights, museums, monuments, bars and restaurants.

The area is served by 2 subway lines , numerous bus lines and tram lines that will help you explore the city and nearby tourist sights such as Sintra and Cascais or the beaches around Caparica and the Estoril coast

Nous avons passé un délicieux séjour dans cet appartement, idéalement situé au cœur de Lisbonne.

Nous avions en fait réservé le n°68, mais suite à un souci technique nous avons été logés au n°140, aussi bien situé mais plus grand et aux meilleures prestations, sans frais supplémentaires bien sûr : la grande classe !

Depuis le balcon (qui court tout le long du living room et de la chambre), la vue sur le castelo et la ville est sublime; l'appartement est calme, lumineux et très fonctionnel) bref, on ne saurait rêver mieux.

Un immense MERCI à TTL, et tout particulièrement à Miguel qui nous a si gentiment accueillis !

The best thing about this flat is also its downfall - being 4 floors up! - but this means that being able to experience all the goings on in the street and the nearby squares add to the enjoyment and participation in the life of the city - this just would not be possible at ground level in a hotel. I loved the sounds rising from the alley way. Lisbon has stolen my heart and I shall be sorry to leave.

Veri nice comfortable and clean apartment even for a family with two little children, 4 year and 1 year old! Of course, except for the stairs... but the central position is really ideal to visit everything easily with children, too!

We really enjoyed our stay in Lisbon!  This apartment was in a great location.  We were close to a lot of the sights, restaurants and shopping.  We were also very close to public transportation.  Raoul  (This may not be the right spelling) was very nice, friendly and helpful.

The location is really central; most attractions can be easily reached by walking, which saves taxi costs and/or long waiting for buses.
The equipment was more than complete, we liked the CD collection with local music (unfortunately the choice has been reduced by some egoistic guests), and the SAT TV which uses the ASTRA satellite (unusual in Portugal)!
The welcome bottle of Vinho Verde is a further nice detail, especially if you arrive late and without luggage...
The staff was very helpful, they managed our luggage problem as well as they delivered all missing things next day.
And not to forget: the daily stairs to the 4th floor are a good exercise :-)
