Apartment in Lisbon 4 - Chiado/Bairro Alto (managed by TravelingToLisbon)

This apartment is set in the old part of the city center. It’s bright and filled with daylight, set on the 3rd floor of a recently refurbished building in Luis de Camões Square. The square is in the cultural and historic heart of Lisbon, on the edge of Bairro Alto and Chiado. The apartment has impressive views of the elegant Praça Camões.

There are tree public car parks 3 minutes walking.

It has an abundance of natural light, and from the window you have an amazing view of the elegant Praça Camões.

The apartment is 90m2 and has been renovated to include the following:

• one bedroom with double bed (160 cm wide * 200cm);
• one living room with dining and sitting areas, two double sofa beds (max 2 persons), satellite TV, DVD and stereo;
• complete kitchen with a washing machine and dish washer;
• bathroom with bathtub;

Wireless broadband access available for those who have their own laptop with Wi-Fi compatible equipment

All rooms have central eating, and air-conditioning. The building has an elevator, being accessible to wheelchair.

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”.

You will also find in the apartment various CDs with typical Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience in Lisbon.

Apartmets 4 and 33 are both located at Praça de Camões. There are several other apartments at Bairro Alto.

Apartment 4 is located at the noththwest corner of Praça Camões, near the beggining of Calçada do Combro, at the heart of Chiado.

Praça Camões is one of the most important squares dedicated to the Portuguese prince of the poetry, with the statue in the centre. The apartment is well situated near Bairro Alto and Chiado, and very close to several museums, operas, theatres and churches. It is located in front of the luxurious 5 stars Bairro Alto Hotel.

A 5 minute walk takes you to the Rossio, in the Baixa, and to the Elevador do Lavra, which takes you to the hill of Pena (see location of apartments 1 and 2). To go to Sintra or to Óbidos you must catch the train at Entre-Campos train station, which is just a short subway trip from Chiado. In the other direction you can find Praça do Comércio, centre of the Portuguese old empire, near the river Tejo (Tagus). Close to shops, restaurants, cafés, banks, cash machines, public transport ( inc subway station  Baixa/Chiado 50 metres away and electric trams) and 24 hour taxi stands, etc.

The nearest airport is Lisbon International Airport at 12 kilometres; the nearest railway station is International Station of Santa Apolónia at 1 kilometre.

Chiado is considered the most beautiful area of historic Lisbon. It was a place of residence of the Portuguese royalty and of the political and cultural elites.

Nearby are located the theatre S. Luis and the opera S. Carlos. This was inspired in the Scala of Milan and was inaugurated in 1783. A little further is Camões Square (Praça de Camões), next to Bairro Alto, picturesque but raffish.

Part of Lisbon's nightlife is concentrated in this quarter, where you can ear the sentimental 'fados' being sung in certain restaurants and cafés. Chiado and Bairro Alto are where locals and tourists meet, with elegant hotels, old cafés and the best international fashion shops.

This central location and well appointed apartment was particularly well-appreciated by my traveling companion, who enjoyed coming back each day between sight-seeing sessions, to relax and have lunch. Thank godness for the tram 28 which stop's conveniently in front of the apartment. The Metro is also close by as is the farmacy and the internet cafe (just downstairs). For a fun excursion away from crowds, take the ferry from Cais do Sodré station (easy walk from here) to Cacilhas. Turn right from the ferry dock, walk 5 minutes and you get to Ponto Fiscal restaurant – yellow umbrellas. Great view and food. There is a lift to Almada and a huge statue or 290 steps up right from the restaurant. A really nice day trip. Enjoyed our stay tremendously.

We cannot believe that no one stayed here since last December...or even stayed here and didn't write about it!
We enjoyed a summer weather with up to 25ºC after a long winter at home. So many things to see and enjoy. Every evening, just for fun, we took the 28E in either direction and got off some place very nice and good for walk.
It was a great stay and will not be our last time in Lisboa - we'll definitely get back to this place.

Tram 28 of course is famous, and a pleasant romantic ride to various vantage points around the city. We loved the Mercado da Ribeira for its fresh sea food and atmosphere.

Bica and pastel de nata is a classic!

There is a very handy grocers shop in “R. de Noticias” just behind the apartment block, also there is a small supermarket on “Rua do Loreto” just a few minutes walk away.

Cervejaria da Trindade (Rua Nova da Trindade 20) is a good place to eat on a Sunday when a lot of restaurants are closed.

Lovely apartment in a very good location. Loved watching the people from the window!
If you want a good Portuguese restaurant we would have to say you try “A primavera do Jerónimo” at tram da Espera 34, which is just around the corner. Take a note of the address as from the outside you wouldn´t know it was a restaurant. The “Bacalhau à Brás” (cod fish with egg, onion and potatoes) is superb and very reasonable.
We will have to come again as there was so much we didn´t get around to.

The apartment was fantastic. We had stayed the night before at a fancy hotel near Parque Eduardo VII but found the location of the apartment to be much more interesting and energizing.

We all found Lisbon to be a fabulous city and all of us felt that the apartment contributed to our unexpected delight in our surroundings.

Your apartment was terrific, an actual highlight of our trip. It was clean, spacious, nicely decorated and well-equipped. The location was perfect for us, as we had a baby with us, and had to return to the apartment for a nap every 3 hours or so. The beautiful view of the Praca out all windows made staying in the apartment pleasant, as did the cable tv and large, bright living room. We have almost as many photos of the view out the windows, or of mom and baby gazing out the windows, as we do of the Empire State Building!

Then, awake from a nap and ready to head out, we would just stroll in almost any direction from our apartment to another sight to see, or take the famous No. 28 streetcar to anywhere in the city.

We also stayed in rental apartments in Madrid and NYC on this trip, and your apartment was by far the cleanest, roomiest and most pleasant. Part of me wishes it had been our last stop on our trip, instead of the first, as we couldn't help comparing everywhere else to your apartment.

Thank you so much for your helpfulness and hospitality. We tell everyone about your apartment, we show them the beautiful photos, and we are already considering returning, after only 2 days back at home.

We stayed in this apartment in April 2007 and could not have been happier. The apartment is huge and incredibly comfortable.
The views of Praca Luis de Camoes are magnificent. The location is handy to everything that we needed - the restaurants and bars in the Bairro are literally a minute away, as are the Baixa-Chiado Metro station and any number of wonderful shops in the Chiado.
The apartment was spotlessly clean, and there were no problems checking in or checking out.
We cannot recommend this apartment more highly - it is the perfect place to stay in beautiful Lisbon.

We stayed 24 Feb - 1 March and had a fantastic time! Love the location, love the apartment, and special thanks to Sara & Paulo for being extra accommodating. Beautifully appointed... Loved all the marble and the wonderful wood floors. Made my French press coffee first thing in the am and hung out at the windows watching the city wake up. Can't say enough about the great location- too many highlights to mention.

We stayed at this apartment in February 2007 for one week. It was in a fantastic area and the apartment was the best place we stayed on our 2 1/2 month trip to Spain/Portugal. It has everything you need to live.
The living room has two great comfortable sofas. The entire apartment is spotless and in excellent repair. We even had parking for our car. We were able to hook to a DSL with our wireless laptop. We had to pay for the service but the reception was great (in the kitchen) The apartment is also very roomy and all rooms including the bathroom are very large. Again, I would not stay anywhere else in Lisbon but this apartment.

A truly superb apartment, well appointed and the wine, fruit and bread were very welcome when we arrived hungry. This is a great location for strolling the streets and seeing the sights and Belém is very convenient by trolley that stops outside the apartment. Paulo was most considerate in helping us deal with a bag which never arrived. If you need a phone while you are there go across the square to the fancy hotel- they have a quiet private phone in the basement. (I spent a lot of time there trying to reach Iberia airlines regarding my baggage)

Booking accomodation on the internet can be a risk but this apartment is just gorgeous, very spacious and very very well appointed. It completely exceeded my expectations (not an easy thing to do). I stayed for eight days and it is in the best location in Lisbon for the tourist and business person alike. The owner, Paulo, is very responsive and goes out of his way to ensure a wonderful stay. I highly recommend this apartment and if you choose it for your stay you will be as thrilled as I was.

I could not recommend this apartment highly enough. The pictures on the website do not do it justice. It's huge, light, clean and we felt completely at home there. It is the prefect location and close to lots of great bars and restaurants. Tram 28 stops right outside and the metro is only a minutes walk away. Nice welcome too with fruit, biscuits and wine.

This was a great location to stay. We could go anywhere with the tram, bus and metro so close. The people are so nice and helpful. We were hoping Portugal would win the World Cup while we were here. We are off to Benedita to visit Padre who stayed with us during World Youth Day 2002. After a few days with him we head to Cascais for the last few days. What an incredible apartment! We were surprised at the size (much bigger than what appears in the pictures) and how incredibly clean it is. As others have said, the location can't be beat! We were able to walk many places, hop on Tram 28, or take the metro to anywhere we wanted to go.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of May. Great location - as noted by others. Very clean. And Paulo was very accomodating. If you are a little crazy and have a car (like us) the parking spot is priceless. We just left it in the spot and walked. Best restaurant we found was left out the front door - first left - and on the first corner on the right. If you are not there at opening - just look for the line. Large portions. Enjoy!

Wow! This apartment is in a prime location for all that Lisbon has to offer. Paulo was a great host (we arrived to find fruit, cookies and a bottle of Lisbon's famous Vihno Verje), the apartment is large, has great views, is secure and has parking. It was also very, very clean. It is directly across the street for a hotel that is 3 times as much per night, and we kept giggling to ourselves that we had a full apartment for one third of the price right across the street. We would highly recommend staying in this apartment again.

The apartment was lovely! We really really enjoyed our stay. Very clean, very homey. Very well equipped, especially the kitchen - which we took advantage of and cooked a meal for ourselves, straight from the Portuguese cookbook! And the price is very very reasonable and the apartment is well-situated... Near the Baixa-Chiado metro. I'd recommend this little flat to anyone.
