Apartment in Lisbon 2 - Baixa (managed by TravelingToLisbon)

Apartment number 2 is located on the 1st floor of a typical XIX century building constructed against a XV century fortress wall in the Pena district.

Nearby you have all kinds of traditional commerce and is walking distance from Lisbon's historical centre and some of the best sea food restaurants in the city. It is also a short walking distance to the subway and train stations going to the beaches around Cascais.

There are also two public car parks within a 3 minute walk of the apartment.

The apartment has a direct panoramic view of the castle and its picturesque surrounding neighbourhoods.

It is 45m2 and has been entirely renovated and remodelled to include:

• one bedroom with double bed (140 cm);
• a living room with a sofa bed (2 persons), satellite TV and hifi stereo;
• a dining room with a single sofa bed;
• a kitchen with gas oven and stove, microwave and 1 fridge with frozen compartment;
• a bathroom with bathtub and washing machine;

Wireless broadband access available for those who have their own laptop with Wi-Fi compatible equipment and telefone to receive phone calls or to make using prepaid card.

In wintertime it is heated with electric heaters.

We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”.

You will also find some CDs with Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience.

Apartments 1, 2 and 55 and 203 are at the same building at Calçada Nova do Colégio, which is a charming narrow street in the district of Pena. There are several other apartments at Baixa.

The main feature of Pena is that it is a plateau, from which two main slopes descend, facing Martin Moniz and Avenida da Liberdade. It begins at the north-east of Rossio and extends to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, commonly known by Campo de Santana. The streets on the two slopes are twisting and irregular, leading to many beautiful alleys and side streets.

Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. Wrought iron balconies from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries can be seen everywhere. In constant dialogue with the wrought iron are the glazed tiles of the façades - a style reportedly brought from Brazil after the 16th century.

Pena is a quiet neighbourhood where one can find the Italian and German embassies, the birthplace of Amália Rodrigues and the place where Luis de Camões is supposed to have lived his last days (Calçada de Santana, nº 139).

It is very close to the famous Bairro Alto, a nightlife area, which can be reached after walking down Rossio or by taking the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon. This 120 year old elevator goes every 15 minutes down to Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides (see KLM Lisbon city guide).

Considerando custo/benefício,  é um ótimo apartamento com tudo que se precisa (internet, principalmente) e perto de todos os transportes, no centro de Lisboa. Tão bom que saímos, viajamos para fora da Europa, e voltamos de novo para ele.

O pessoal da Traveling é  muito gentil e sempre nos atendeu quando foi necessário, chegando a instalar bancadas de computador  para o nosso conforto. Foi um "luxo" vivermos 100 dias colados na muralha fernandina (século XIV).

A very "comfy pad" in a great location, and above all, in an incredible city! Lisbon has been our planned travel destination, ever since seeing the Wim Wenders film "Lisbon story". Our expectations were greatly exceeded and we will no doubt be back again - hopefully soon! I wish I had more eneergy at night to enjoy the nightlife in Bairro Alto, but after walking several km everyday, it was nice to return here for one last glasss of wine before collapsing into deep sleep.

Dear friends at "Traveling to Lisbon",
We were delighted with our stay in apartment 002. 
When we arrived, we were greeted by the charming Filipa.  She and her compatriots helped us get our luggage up the steep stairs. Then, Filipa, who had corresponded with me previously, spent time explaining to us about the apartment and the area.  She was extremely helpful. 
We enjoyed the apartment and our location with its closeness to the commercial area.
We had a fine time in Lisbon, riding the sightseeing bus, eating at the sidewalk cafes, walking the lovely streets, taking a trip to Sintra, visiting the castle and the emergency room at the nearby hospital (my wife Bonnie took a fall in New Jersey USA at the Newark airport and left her eye medicine in our hotel room.  The doctor there gave her prescriptions so she could buy her medicine in Lisbon). 
We flew from Lisbon to Madrid and are now in Granada. 
We are having a wonderful time and fondly remember our friends at "Traveling to Lisbon".
