Description
|
Apartment number 55 is located on the 4th floor (no elevator!) of a typical XIX century building constructed against a XV century fortress wall in the Pena district. Nearby you have all kinds of traditional commerce, and it is a walking distance from Lisbon's historical centre and some of the best sea food restaurants in the city. It is also a short walking distance to the subway and train stations going to the beaches around Cascais. There are two public car parks 3 minutes walking. It has an abundance of natural light, and from the window you have an amazing direct view of the castle and its beautiful surrounding. It is 80m2 and has been completely renovated and remodelled to include: one bedroom with double bed (190cm * 140cm); one living room with a sofa bed, dining area, satellite TV, DvD player and a hi-fi stereo; a mezzanine with a single bed (not very comfortable : a matress on the floor, low ceiling, light in the morning and low intimacy because it is on top of the living room) ; - a kitchen complete with washing machine, gas oven and stove, microwave and fridge with frozen compartment; This comunicates with the sitting room;
a bathroom with an ancient renewed bathtub; one terrace, built within on the old fortress wall, with an amazing view over the castle S. Jorge, Lisbon's roofs and the river Tejo, where you can sit and relax;
Wireless broadband access available for those who have their own laptop with Wi-Fi compatible equipment. It has fans, central heating and a fireplace. Please bare in mind that the walls at the terrace are quite small, being not suitable for small children. We will welcome you with a bottle of cold “vinho verde”. You will also find some CDs with Portuguese music to complete your cultural experience.

Location
|
Apartments 1, 2, 55 and 203 are at the same building at Calçada Nova do Colégio, which is a charming narrow street in the district of Pena. There are several other apartments at Baixa. The main feature of Pena is that it is a plateau, from which two main slopes descend, facing Martin Moniz and Avenida da Liberdade. It begins at the north-east of Rossio and extends to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, commonly known by Campo de Santana. The streets on the two slopes are twisting and irregular, leading to many beautiful alleys and side streets. Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. Wrought iron balconies from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries can be seen everywhere. In constant dialogue with the wrought iron are the glazed tiles of the façades - a style reportedly brought from Brazil after the 16th century. Pena is a quiet neighbourhood where one can find the Italian and German embassies, the birthplace of Amália Rodrigues and the place where Luis de Camões is supposed to have lived his last days (Calçada de Santana, nº 139) It is very close to the famous Bairro Alto, a nightlife area, which can be reached after walking down Rossio or by taking the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon. This 120 year old elevator goes every 15 minutes down to Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides (see KLM Lisbon city guide). Come and enjoy! You can check the location of the neighborhood and the street in the following links:

A todos los que tengáis ganas de salir corriendo cuando lleguéis a la calle, haced caso a las chicas de la agencia... Está claro que el apartamento está genial. Para unos días, que las escaleras se hacen muy duras.

Nuestra estancia ha sido muy buena nos han ayudado incluso a subir las maletas porque la escalera está muy enpinada. Lisboa es muy bonita y hemos ido a un mogollón de sitios: a sintra y a cascais, al barrio alto y a subir al tranvía 28, etc.

- Helpful, friendly staff on hand to solve any problems. - Sintra + the palace a great day out. - Belém and Oceanarium brilliant. - Umbrella on terrace keeps blowing over. Be careful! - Beware of pickpockets on the 28 Tram!! - Go to Tourist Info for advice.
Enjoy!

We had a fantastic four nights here in Lisbon. The apartment being a great place to return to and chill out after a long day walking in the sun! Terrace great for enjoying a glass of wine and taking in the views. We'd recommend the Oceanarium on a rainy day and El Gordo for great Tapas. Would love to return and see everything we haven't managed to squeeze in this time round. Being here for a big festival was great too - the locals definitely know how to party!

A wonderful base for exploring Lisbon - the longer we stayed the more we discovered... what was a real treat land; street music meant we had to have earplugs quite a few nights. The thieves market was great for finding old treasures. Loved Sintra. Also a great antique market at Belém on Sunday. Brilliant staff who will run up the 54 stairs in our building to come to any rescue you need - eg. blowing the fuse! We should fitter than we arrived (hopefully) although the wine, cheese, biscuits and chocolated needed when we arrived home may cancel that out! It was a great stay. Thank you.

We enjoyed our time very much in Lisbon. The city is so lovely with its tiled walls and floors that the entire place is like a picturesque postcard. This apartment is cozy and confortable and we feel really at home here. Thanks for all the hospitality and good advice given. We will miss this place for sure!

Except for a pigeon which has unloaded his shit over my wife (what a stench!) we had a very pleasant stay in Lisboa. Most of the rain fell at night, it was good weather to walk. So we did! We enjoyed the city, the food, the people and the fado, and we must come back to see the rest... But only in apartment 55! It is (almost) perfect, especially his own "miradouro", the terrace. Very clean also. Thank you for your services and your hospitality! We will back sometime, already we have "saudade" for Lisboa...

We stayed ten days in this great apartment. The reception by Vanessa of the Salovani-Travelingtolisbon team was great. She made us feel very welcome right away and gave us a great tip for a good restaurant (ask her!). We found the apartment very comfortable: quite spacious, fully equipped, a good bed and wonderful views from the terrace. We loved the morning breakfasts on the terrace in the sun looking at the Tejo and the castle San Jorge. Stunning every time. The location of the apartment is great, just a ten minutes walk from Rossio and Praça Figueira where you can find the bus stops, a metro station and even a trainstation. Lisbon is very good to walk around, we had no problem at all with the slopes or the steps. If you've got some time we highly recommend taking the train to visit places outside Lissabon. We loved Setúbal with great shops in lovely narrow streets and boot trips to go dolphin spotting (take the ferry to Barreiro, then the train. Takes about 1,5 hours in total). So, all in all: we loved the apartment and would definitely recommend the company Travelingtolisbon! And to all future guests: enjoy your stay!

55 has some of the best views of the city. There's 4 flights of stairs plus a lot of steps and steep hill beforehand but totally worth it and would recommend to all! Having been to Lisbon several times this is the apartment I'd return to! Besides the great balcony it's roomy, bright, cool and has everything you need with the staff of TravellingToLisbon only 2 doors down who were excellent, friendly and helpful!

Loved the balcony. Didn't love the ants who came out in large numbers if even a small piece of food was left on kitchen counters. Very helpful staff. Very much enjoyed our stay - thank you.

Apartment 55 is an excellent place to stay in Lisbon, and the entire Salovani staff was friendly and helpful. For us, the lighlights of the apartment are the outstanding terrace balcony with its views of the Tejo, castle and central Lisbon. Should we return to Lisbon, we will try to stay in apartment 55 again. Thanks take care.

I love this apartment. It is stylish, well equipped with a great terrace. Also very quiet. Rest to keep bathroom door closed and windows open (Lisbon showers!). Perfect internet connection and confortable bed. I spent a month here and loved it. All staff very helpful. Any questions just ask them. 10/10 PERFECT!
